Mikhail Gorbachev and the end of Communism

Mikhail Gorbachev opened up the Soviet Union because he allowed new ideas be heard. He allowed the churches to be opened, people to be free from jail, and books that were banned were allowed to be read. The citizens were able to vote for the country's candidates. People are allowed to open their own private businesses. He brought back much freedom and allowed many voices to be heard. It allowed angry Soviet citizens to speak of their complaints or problems. He was very open and paved the way for the end of communism because in communism, the government basically controlled everything. Communism restricted freedom of press, speech, and religion. Mikhail's way of governing was different from all the other previous Soviet leaders. The way it was different was because nobody else listened to their people.

The downfall on communism became a major point in history. After WWII, the Soviet Union and the US were involved in a Cold War. They both tried to increase their influence worldwide. The Soviet Union stretched out it's power over the majority of Eastern Europe. It all pretty much came clear that communism was not going to leave Russia. The Soviet Union also separated into 15 different Republics which insisted of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Lativa, Lithuania, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

Creation of Israel

The day after their independence was declared, Israel was ambushed by the Arab states and Palestinians. After this brutal ambush came a major Middle Eastern war that existed between the Jews and the Palestinians. The Jews stood alone in their fight against the many for the Holy Land. Upon hearing the news of imperialism, others began to join forces against the Jews. There was Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Europe.After the 1948 war, Israel had increased to about 8,000 square miles of Palestine which decreased the Arab lands that had been in the 1947 U.N. partition by about 50 percent. Jerusalem was divided, with Arabs on the east side of the Green Line and the Jews on the west.

Nelson Mandela and Apartheid

Apartheid was a rigid policy of segregation of the nonwhite population.Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was the first president of South Africa to be elected in full represented democrat elections.In this same year came Nelson Mandela, who was a leading figure in the African National Congress (ANC) in 1964, was released from prison on Feb. 11, 1990 after 27 years and was later elected president. In 1991 the remaining major discriminating laws that supported apartheid were terminated, including the Population Registration Act of 1950.

The Neolithic Revolution is the term for the first agricultural revolution, describing the transition from hunting and gathering to Agriculture, as first adopted by various independent prehistoric Human societies in various locations. The term refers to both the general time period over which these initial developments took place and the subsequent changes to Neolithic Human societies which either resulted from, or are associated with, the adoption of early farming techniques and crop cultivation. The first agricultural revolution spurred major social changes, including an increasing popular density, the organization of a society, specialization in non-agricultural crafts, such as clay figurine making in Catalhoyuk, standing armies, barter, and trade and the expansion of human "control" over nature.

Cuban Missile Crisis

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation during the Cold war between the Soviet Union and the United States in Cuba. The missiles were ostensibly placed to protect Cuba from further planned attacks by the United States after the failed Bay of pigs invasion, and were rationalized by the Soviets as equivalent to the U.S. placing deployable nuclear Warheads in the United Kingdom,Italy, Greece, and most significantly, Turkey.

The crisis began on October 14, 1962 when U.S. imagery revealing Soviet nuclear missile installations on the island were shown to U.S president John f. Kennedy and ended fourteen days later on October 28, 1962, when Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev announced that the installations would be dismantled. The Cuban Missile Crisis is often regarded as the moment when the Cold War came closest to escalating into a Nuclear war .

Russians refer to the event as the "Caribbean Crisis," while Cubans refer to it as the "October Crisis."

NATO and the Warsaw Pact

The Warsaw pact,which was officially named the treaty of friendship, was an organization of central and Eastern European communist states .It was established on May 1st, 1955 in Warsaw ,Poland has to counter the alleged threat from the Nato alliance. The creation of the Warsaw Pact was prompted by the integration of a "re-militarized" West Germany into NATO on May 9, 1955. The Pact lasted throughout the Cold war until certain member nations began withdrawing in 1989, following the collapse of the Eastern Block and political changes in the Soviet Union. The treaty was signed in Warsaw on May 14, 1955 and official copies were made in Russian, Polish, Czech and German.

Night and Fog the movie

My reation to this movie is wow. Because some of the seens were very disturbing and nasty. There were seens of dead bodys with no heads. The heads where chopped off and it was actuall footage. and the bodys of the jews burned up. They showed the pile of womans hair that they cut off for clothing and the pile was huge. They showed the jews bodys so skinney and weak. They also showed the actual gas chamber where they killed most of the jews. The nazis killed so many people and they didnt even care.

Schindler's List

In class we watched the movie Schindler's List. This movie to me was very graphic towards showing how cruel the nazis were to jews. the seens that disturbed me the most was how easy it was foe the nazi's to just go up to a jew and shoot them in the head. That they didn't feel any grief towards the little kids that they killed everyday. I dont many of the images will stay with for the mare fact that i know that they were actors, and not really feeling the pain. unlikke the movie night and fog. which all the images will stay with me because they were real.

I sort of agree and disagree with the bombing in japan. I sort of agree because if we didn't bomb japan the war could have gotten worse and alot of people of our own could have gotten hurt and it also ended a terrible war. I also disagree because between us ending the war we took alot of woman and children's lives and we really didn't have too. The bomb killed alot of innocent people because of only a few.
And no i wouldn't change anything on the list at the bottom of the article. Because i think that they have gotten the most historic and memorable events on the list already.

What the word propaganda means is the deliberate spreading of such information like rumors.
There is statement on the poster that says Europe's Victory is Your Prosperity' in a different language. The illustrations in the poster are clearing showing the kicking out of one country and the coming in of another. In the poster there is a huge iron fist and it looks like the fist punched someones face witch looks to be like Adolf Hitlers face. some of the symbols in the poster are a huge cross, and a Nazi symbol.

The Treaty of Versailles

The Treaty of Versailles was not that good in with Germany. The nation had been blamed for the first world war and had been forced to pay compensation to the allies under the war guilt clause of the treaty. The war guilt clause not only made the Germans accept responsibility for the war but also cost them dearly. 10% of German lands were lost as a result, all of Germany's overseas colonies were taken away and shared between the allies and a massive 12.5% of the German population found itself living outside of the new German borders. These terms had several very dramatic consequences on Germany.

Initially they refused to sign the treaty and opted to scuttle the fleet in protest.
The economy was ruined as much of the produce and profit had to be sent to the allies as reparations payments. This meant that the German economy was unable to recover itself.
The disarmament of the armed forces was viewed as an embarrassment and the Germans felt very insecure about their inability to defend themselves: it also meant a loss of status as military power means that a nation has political clout.
The German people felt bitter that they were excluded from the league of nations and enforced to live by other peoples rules.

Gandhi helped his nation of India gain Independence from Great Britain. The way that he that he did this was by forming a group if people and then having them march an do protest against the british. But the in the beginning the british used to beat them very bad with sticks and other weapons to get them to stop. Gandhi did not like violence, so instead of fighting back when the british attacked them, Gandhi and his people took it like men even though that was the most stupid thing that they could have done, because they could have died. And i do think that Gandhi had a huge part with india getting its independence but if he had never helped, it probably would have happened anyway.

British were big fans of tea. And in order to get the tea they thought that they would trade with china. But China was not a big fan trading and in order to get the tea The british started to think and that is when they came up with the drug opium. Opium is a preparation made from the juice of poppy seedpods, and used to produce heroin. The drug was mainly produced in and shipped from the East Indies to China by British merchants. This addictive drug had gotten many Chinese badly hooked by the early 1800s.

Film Lesson: "Mountains of the Moon"

During class we watched parts of a movie called, "Mountians of the moon".
In the movie two explorers traveled to find the main sorced of the nile river.
They went through some pretty rough things along the trip though.
Like insects and dangerous animals. For example lwhen the 2 explorers had to sleep outside, mthe had to sleep under a some kind of net to keep the bugs off. But one of the men forgot to put it over their bed and a beetle went in his ear. Then he stabed himself in the ear. Thats is an example of what some of things were that they went through. Some of the advantages that the europeans had over the aficans were that they had guns and weapons.

Karl marx wanted communism to take over the world.Why he wanted it to take over the world was because Communism was the inevitable end to the process of evolution begun with feudalism and passing through capitalism and socialism.
The good guys that he was talking about were the workers around the world. He was telling them to unite.Marx held that history was a series of class struggles between owners of capital (capitalists) and workers. He had thought this because As wealth became more concentrated in the hands of a few capitalists, he thought, the ranks of an increasingly dissatisfied proletariat would swell, leading to bloody revolution and eventually a classless society.

Karl Marx was a german who did not like the way that european workers were getting treated in the european factories. He thought that the factories were very unsafe and very harsh to their workers.Marx expected that once the proletariat had taken control of all capitalist property, wealth would flow more abundantly for the benefit of all. Then in the "higher phase of communist society," individuals would finally be free to develop their abilities and talents to the fullest. Marx put it this way: "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."

Film Lesson/ Modern Times

During Class we watched a movie from a collections dvd from the director/writer/and actor Charlie Chaplin. In the movie Charlie Chaplin played a factory worker who worked along with other factory workers in a huge factory, who all worked for this man who sat around and did nothing but boss people around. In the factory Charlie Chaplin gets out of control when he gets stressed about himself not being able to keep up with the machine when he had to tighten the bults. I do not think he liked the way thgat the factory workers were being treated because of the way he acted when he had gotten stressed. He had started to squirt oil on the workers as they worked causing them to mess up the flow of things. He also would turn off the machines while they were working to annoy them. In the movie an inventor came to the boos of the factory with an invention to help the workers eat and work at the same time.

This machine would feed them soup, meat, and would wipe there mouthes with this a sponge. They tryed to innvent this so that factory workers would not have to stop what they were doing and could make more products a day. But the machines malfunctioned and the boss refused to take the offer.

The lindustrial Revolution was very unfair to workers, children , and towns . There were many inventions that helped factories and dangered factories. But that all changed after 1833.

Back in 1801, Children were used by factories and others jobs to do very harsh and difficult. Children had to report to work at times like to six oclock in the morning all the way till 7 in the evening. And on top of that if the children got tired then their supervisors would hit them with wips to keep them awake. Children also had to work around very dangerous machines that they were sometimes forced to fix or use. While using them they would get injured really bad like loosing hands and just really being hurt bad.

Some of the top 5 inventions that seem the most important to me are the following five.
1)The spinning jenny: This simple machine allowed a worker to spin 6 or 8 threads at a time.
2)The automobile: In 1886, the German scientist, Gottlieb Daimler, built the first internal combustion engine. It was fueled by gasoline. Later he put the engine in one of the first automobiles.
3)The Airplane:People also tried to put an engine in a flying machine. Finally, in 1904, Wilbur and Orville Wright successfully flew their Wright Flyer at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Another era began.
4)Photograpy:The Daguerreotype, a metal plate coated with silver iodide, was exposed to light through a small hole in the camera.The plate was removed and treated with mercury fumes. Later the plate was washed and treated with table salt to prevent fading.
5)Electricity:incandescent light bulb and electric generating are just a few of the inventions of Thomas Edison.

These five inventions are the most important to me because without them we would still be cave people writing on the cave walls with our fingers nails and carving our vocabulary into stones.

My definition of nationalism is when the people of a country love and stand behind there country during any war or dispute the country may have.
But the actual definition is: Nationalism is basically belonging to, rooting for, and fighting for, your own country.
Some things people do to show nationalism is hang flags outside their homes, throw barbeques on holidays such as Forth of july, when we won our independence, Columbus day, when america was dicovered, and etc. I also do all these things to celebrate america even though i dont like america that much many any.

Latin america revolution

This is the topic i will be disscussing.

The first revolution was by black slaves against their masters. About 100,000 slaves fought for their independence. They had finally won their independence in 1804, and haiti became the first black colony 2 win its independence from european power. Back in Europe, Napoleon controlled Spain and inserted his brother as king of Spain. The people across the ocean in Latin America were supposed to be loyal to the Spanish king, but why should they be loyal to a king that . The revolutions of Latin America were swift and thourough. In 20 years time (1810 - 1830), the entire continent of South America rose up and won its independance from European powers.
wasn't even Spanish? They started to question their role as colonies of Spain.
